The Gift of Care

My name is Darryl, and I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care I received at St. Marys Memorial Hospital.

It all started when I began experiencing chest pains, which I initially dismissed as indigestion. I called my wife to pick me up in London, and we decided to go to St. Marys Memorial Hospital, knowing that the wait time in the city would be much longer. Little did I know that decision would make all the difference.

When I arrived at the Emergency Department, I was greeted by the triage nurse who made me feel comfortable and reassured. From the very start, I knew I was in good hands. After some tests, Dr. Donaldson came into my room and informed me that I had suffered a heart attack. The news was shocking – it was a moment that made me realize my life was about to change.

But through the initial shock and fear, the staff at SMMH provided me with incredible care and support. The nurses were cheerful, compassionate, and always there to lift my spirits, which made a world of difference. One of the night nurses, in particular, stood out for her kindness and attentive care. Her outgoing nature really helped me get through those anxious nights.

I’m incredibly grateful for the small-town hospital and the wonderful team that took care of me. Their dedication to my health didn’t stop at my heart attack. They encouraged me to quit smoking – a suggestion I’m proud to say I’ve taken to heart. Thanks to their encouragement (and a patch that I joked would just fall off!), I’ve been smoke-free ever since.

I truly believe that anyone in the care of the staff at St. Marys Memorial Hospital would only have kind words to say. You are an amazing team of healthcare professionals, and I want to send a big hug to all of you.

Thank you for everything.

Grateful Patient Darryl
